Launch of Picturing Marawi at SM Supermalls

Hey guys!

Last Thursday, I was at SM Megamall Atrium for the launch of Picturing Marawi Photo Exhibit, featuring photos by former journalist, Mylah Reyes Roque.

The photographs that are featured in Picturing Marawi shows the Marawi siege aftermath through images of homes, buildings, and mosques that are deserted by war, but nevertheless speak of the community that used to make it alive.

To refresh your memory, the Marawi Siege was an armed conflict that took place in Marawi, Lanao del Sur - a city filled with pulsating energy that was silenced by war. The battle started on the 23rd of May 2017, and lasted for five months.

"The exhibit memorializes the tragedy in Marawi with the aim to engage mallgoers and help them have a greated understanding of the conflict. " said Jonjon San Agustin, Senior Vice President for Marketing of SM Supermalls.

After the official opening of the exhibit I had an opportunity to talk to Ms. Mylah to tell me more about the photos she took, as she told me the actual purpose of the places featured in the photos one by one, what happened to those places, specially to the ones where the people of marawi used to pray, really did make me sad.

Here, Ms. Mylah talks about her favorite photos, the one the features the last stronghold of the terrorists and the top of a mosque with a damaged Philippine flag, she also told me that she was only given an hour to roam around ground zero, to take these photographs featured in the exhibit.

Ofcourse I also have some favorites from the exhibit..

Photos of mosques where the people of Marawi use to pray.

And these photos of a Catholic Church.

And that's it for this update.

If you want to see the exhibit but you live far away from SM Megamall, worry not because the exhibit will be displayed at several SM Supermalls nationwide.
