NOVUHAIR HEAD BAGS AGORA AWARD President and CEO Wins in the Individual Category of the 37th Agora Awards

Hey guys!

Quezon City, Philippines – Nutramedica, Inc. President and CEO Sheila Mae Velilla bagged the Outstanding Achievement in Entrepreneurship – Medium Scale at the recently concluded 37th Agora Awards.  Nutramedica is a homegrown 100% wholly-owned Filipino enterprise that manufactures and distributes Novuhair, an acclaimed line of products that addresses hair loss.

Held last October 26 at PICC, CCP Complex, the Agora Awards recognizes individuals and organizations for exceptional marketing skills and strategies.  It is touted to be the premier marketing awards body in the country and sets the high standards of excellence in the industry.

Moving in an industry dominated by giant multinational pharmaceutical companies, Nutramedica’s tenacious rise from its humble beginnings as a microenterprise is one for the books.  Thanks largely to its creativity and innovation, it has become a major player with a well-established niche in the industry.

Founded in 2004 by Velilla, Nutramedica develops beauty and healthcare products out of natural and mostly indigenous ingredients.  It is one of the pioneers in the commercialization of virgin coconut oil (VCO) and gained wide success with its slogan “healthiest oil on earth,” which led to its acquisition by a big company.

It continued to create more VCO-based skin care products and hit the jackpot with its latest, and now banner, product – Novuhair, nature’s answer to hair loss.  This breakthrough solution is made of 19 herbal ingredients and comes in topical scalp lotion, herbal shampoo, and herbal conditioner that effectively battles the effects of hair loss and helps enhance and restore one’s crowning glory.

Launched in 2009, Novuhair enjoys tremendous success until today.  It is widely accepted not only here in the Philippines, but also in other countries.  It is set to enter the international market, starting with the United States (US), in December of this year.  Such bold, yet timely, move of the company to export Novuhair to the US and eventually the Middle East also opens the opportunity for proudly-made local products to penetrate the global arena.

Novuhair’s popularity and market leadership may be attributed to the company’s initial market study coupled with the right timing, as well as smart use of resources by coming up with an effective tri-media campaign best described as low-budget yet high-impact marketing.

Leveraging on its organic growth from a microenterprise to medium scale with over 30 employees in a span of 12 years, Nutramedica continues to further develop, market and distribute high-quality goods that could bring honor to the country.
The firm raises the bar in entrepreneurship with its faithful adherence to best business practices, such as provision of high quality products and excellent services, adaptability to market trends, constant innovation, diversification of trade, and giving back to society.
“Great things in business are never done by one person, they are done by a team of people”, Velilla quotes Steve Jobs when asked what’s her secret to success in this competitive business of beauty and healthcare.
“We at Nutramedica also adhere to our core values of integrity, trust, fairness, discipline, humility, leadership, teamwork and faith in God.  That’s our winning formula,” Velilla further adds.
Novuhair Topical Scalp Lotion, Shampoo and Conditioner are available in all Mercury Drug Stores and other leading drug stores nationwide. Find Something Delicious at Alaska Merry Crémas Food Fest 2016

Hey everyone!

Happy Thursday!

If there's one thing that best highlights the joys and abundance of the Christmas season, it's the many feasts and gatherings that bring Filipino families and friends together. Aside from the happy memories, the catching-up and the bonding opportunity, it's the sumptuous dishes coming out of the kitchen and even the take-out box that is truly the centerpiece of every Christmas gathering.

The Yuletide Season also marks the opening of many food fairs and bazaars where up and coming food merchants take center stage and get the opportunity to showcase their delicious food products to foodies and the public. Bazaars provide the chance for upcoming names to reach out to a bigger slice of the market at a more convenient setting due to its strategic location, high market traffic and the word-of-mouth advertising it usually brings.

This year's Alaska Merry Crémas Food Fest, to be held on Sunday, November 6, from 11AM to 8PM at the Trinoma Activity Center in Quezon City proves to be another exciting gathering of more than 30 food concessionaires all geared up to showcase their various food specialties to the public. While the food on display is a mix of sweet and savory dishes, there's one thing that makes it both delicious and delectable and that is the Alaska Crema All-Purpose Cream.

On it’s fourth staging, start-ups and established businesses operating out of their home kitchens relish the opportunity of being able to showcase their specialty dishes, while also having the chance to gain more patrons, thanks to the exposure being offered by the event.

Here, three food merchants speak about their passion for good food and the "créma" that makes it possible.

Chef Jon’s: Sumptuous, mouth-watering cakes
by Chef Joseph Sanvictores

Baking has always been a passion for Joseph Sanvictores, a young chef who is living the dream of starting his own bakery, Chef Jon’s,  following a quick detour with food.   Already an established chef with multiple food businesses under his name, Chef Joseph started offering cakes and other pastries out of his home kitchen two months ago. As a baker, he credits Alaska Crema for giving his cakes its distinct taste, "What I like about Alaska Crema is that its a cream that's not too overpowering in sweetness; it has that balanced taste that works well for my cakes," he shares.
Since the bakery is still in its infancy, Chef Joseph appreciates the fact that Alaska Crema gives bakers like him value for money -- especially since baking is a business that relies heavily on the use of creams. By joining this year's Alaska Merry Crémas Food Fest, he hopes to reach out to a bigger market, with more people having the opportunity to get to know more of his products. Chef Joseph will showcase up to four variants of cake on display, including his best-seller, dubbed the Birthday Cake.

Southern Barbecue: Pinoy favorite made different
by Anna Tugas and Marsie La Sangre

Barbecues are a truly distinct Pinoy staple food, hence making them a dime-a-dozen. Southern Barbecue, a business by long-time friends Anna Tugas and Marsie La Sangre hopes to make that difference by offering their barbecues with a side of Alaska Crema. If this sounds implausible, then all the more that the public should try it.

The two long-time friends have food businesses of their own when they decided to collaborate on a shared food business. After deciding to offer barbecues ("because they're easy to make," says Anna), the two were able to open a physical store in their BF Homes neighborhood. Since barbecue has always been a common viand, the two decided to put an edge and a spin to the staple meal by offering it with a side of garlic sauce, made out of Alaska Crema.

Marsie believes that joining Alaska Merry Crémas Food Fest serves as a good marketing tool to their business, on top of having a physical store. The association to the Alaska Créma brand also provides them with the edge and the exposure that will definitely benefit Southern Barbecue.

Batter Up: Sweet brownies and cookies you can’t help but nibble on
by Florence Bayer

Florence Bayer discovered her love of baking when she was still barely out of high school, following a serendipitous turn at the school oven during a home economics class.  Bayer began offering the baked goodies for sale, buoyed by the success of her signature brownies that turned out to be a hit even among her mom's friends. This was more than ten years ago, and the love for baking resulted to Batter Up, Bayer's successful home bakery business.

Bayer is back for the second time for this year's Merry Crémas, and definitely more excited than ever to showcase more than seven variants of her baked goods. Taking center stage is her signature brownies, which counts Alaska Crema as one of its ingredients. "I started using Alaska Crema by accident. I had to improvise because I was missing a yogurt so I decided to use Alaska Crema with lemon instead. That made all the difference and had led me to create something that is well-loved by everyone,"  she shares.

By joining Alaska Merry Crémas Food Fest 2016, Bayer is looking forward to having an entirely different market to cater to, plus gaining the exposure, which is very important, especially for a young baker like her.

Have a taste of what these three food merchants can offer, while also getting the chance to enjoy other sumptuous dishes and sweet delights when you visit this year's Alaska Merry Crémas Food Fest at Trinoma. Who knows? You might just have met the next food superstar or tasted the next in-demand dish that day.

Hey Guys!

Happy Halloween!

We may not be aware that we are unknowingly putting harmful chemicals on our hair thus resulting to general conditions such as migraine, nausea and skin rashes. The symptoms may be quickly attributed to stress but if you look closer to that hair product you’re using, you’ll be surprise to find the culprit.

Popularity does not equate to safety, some popular brands sold in the market are loaded with mildly toxic chemicals that may be harmful in prolonged use.

Novuhair, Nature’s answer to hair loss, gives you the lowdown on these chemicals to help you with your choices.

Myth: Shampoo must produce lots of lather in order to properly clean your hair.
Truth: Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) is a compound that helps shampoo and other cleaning product in producing foam and bubbles. Though it may effectively remove hair build-up, it can also strip off essential oils that is needed to keep your hair healthy.

Myth: Parabens has an anti-bacterial compound benefits that outweighs the harm.
Truth: Parabens are basically used to prolong the shelf life of hair and cosmetic products mostly for its antibacterial purpose. Symptoms that are related to over exposure to parabens are Atopic Dermatitis and Rosacea. Further studies also show that use of products with parabens accelerate skin damage and aging related to sun exposure.

Myth: My hair smells terrific! I love the perfume scent on my hair product.
Truth: A nice whiff of perfume might not be harmful but the fragrance that is mixed in your hair product might have come from harmful substances from highly toxic ingredients which can lead to Allergic reactions and mood swings. That perfume is better off somewhere else.

Myth: Hair products that promise straightening and smoothening effect use non-toxic Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate as a natural preservative.
Truth: Sodium Hydroxymethylglycinate is a substance used in making your hair soft and bouncy, although it is considered natural preservative, also releases formaldehyde which can lead to skin and eye irritations. Prolonged use may also affect your immune system.

Use of some of these chemicals combined may also result to hair loss and other hair problems, thus, it is important to be an informed consumer. A lot of new products have saturated the market hence, read the labels for fine prints before buying.

Novuhair, nature’s answer to hair loss is made of 19 Natural ingredients which includes herbal components such as moringa oleifera, panax ginseng, virgin coconut oil and the natural essences of rosemary and peppermint. Novuhair nourishes the scalp and hair by increasing the flow of nutrients and improving blood circulation to the scalp. Novuhair also helps hydrate the scalp, maintain the hair’s natural luster and prevent early hair graying, hair dryness and itching.

Pharex ensures your loved one’s safety with every medication

Hey Guys!

The idea of close family ties is widespread among Filipinos as evidenced in their habits and practices. Filipinos value the concept of extended families with in-laws living in one household or overseas workers who overcome loneliness in order to support the family or of caring for the elderly members at home instead of packing them off to a hospice for the aged. But more importantly, family members care about their loved ones’ health as much as they care of their own.

Filipinos show concern for the people they love most, especially the elderly, by taking care of them when they are sick. Health concerns are usually discussed with the trusted members of the family for motivation to recover and further assistance. Indeed, oftentimes, family members come together in nursing a sickly member back to health or when paying medical bills.

Other than ensuring that their loved ones’ health are monitored, family members actively see to it that medical regimens are maintained so that they get well, expenses do not get aggravated or hospitalizations are minimized or avoided altogether.

In order to help Filipinos take better care of their loved ones, Pharex HealthCorp—the most prescribed unibranded generic medicines—has long advocated the importance of adhering to prescribed medication. This is why the Pharex 15-day Compliance Pouch or Pharex CP15 was launched. This innovative product aims to assist patients to better adhere to their treatment regimen.

“We see how individuals put importance to family and their health. And with this, we want people to know that Pharex is one with them in the care for their elder family members,” said Tomas Marcelo Agana III, President and CEO of Pharex.

The company has been in the service of Filipinos for more than 25 years, showing sincere concern for their families by providing anti-infective and chronic care drugs, as well as, vitamins.

“In line with our support to disseminate the essence of compliance, we make sure that our medicines are affordable and accessible without compromising on quality. This is our mission: to promote strict compliance to medication for recovery and a better quality of life,” Agana added.

Pharex CP15 are all available in any leading drugstores. For more details, kindly contact 433-8088 (local 820).

Sun Life Launches Prosperity Card plus a new TVC featuring Matteo Guidicelli

Hey guys!

Last Friday, August 19, the launch of Sun Life Prosperity Card happened at B-Hotel Quezon City.

The Sun Life Prosperity Card is an investment card worth P5,000 which may be invested in any of the peso denominated mutual funds managed by SLAMCI under its Sun Life Prosperity Funds. The first of its kind in the market, it has revolutionized mutual funds investing in the country.

Aside from the Launch of the Prosperity Card, Sun Life also showed us their latest TVC featuring Matteo Guidicelli.

"We wanted SLAMCI's new TVC to encourage the audience to begin their investing journey with the Sun Life Prosperity Card because it's an easy and
convinient way to start building one's brighter future,"  explained SLAMCI president Valerie Pama. "By investing in mutual funds, one can make his money work harder for him, as against simply leaving all of it in the bank."

To illustrate this point, Pama shared that a 91-day tine deposit in a bank 10 years ago would have given 28% return; but for the same period, the Sun Life Prosperity Bond Fund grew by 66%, while the money invested in the Sun Life Prosperity Balanced Fund would have earned 155%. Meanwhile, an investment in the Sun Life Prosperity Philippine Equity Fund gained 221%.

"This is exactly why we want Filipinos, especially the youth, to start investing some of their money in mutusl funds," Pama said. "Instead of using up all of one's money on trendy items that will soon be replaced by a new fad, why not invest it for the long term and watch it grow? The two Matteos in our TVC certainly highlighted that message in a fun yet clear manner."

Maria Charina Fuentes, Head, Strategic Development and Training of SLAMCI talked about The Sun Life Prosperity Card. (Photo credit: Armi Pineda of

From L-R: SLAMCI President Valerie Pama, Matteo Guidicelli, and Maria Charina Fuentes. (Photo credit: Armi Pineda of
For his part, Matteo said he had fun portraying two different personas. "It's the first time I did such a project, and I definitely enjoyed playing both roles," he said. "But what's important is that we were able to bring home the message. It's fun to have nice material things and be on YOLO mode, but what will happen to you if all your money runs out and you have nothing saved for the long-term?

And if there's one thing that Matteo knows, it's that some things are definitely worth the wait. "Whether I'm doing sports or working on a showbiz project, I know that I need to be patient before I could see the results. It's the same thing when you invest your money - you have to grow it long-term before you can enjoy the benefits," he explained. "You may have to wait a bit, but it's always worth it!

The TVC shows two Matteos with strikingly opposite tactics: one tries to impress by bragging his material possessions, including a new phone and credit card, while the other woos her bu promising a brighter future together with the help of Sun Life Prosperity Card.

And that's it for today!

Catch SLAMCI's latest TVC featuring Matteo Guidicelli on cable TV.

Sun Life Financial: A Way Towards Financial Independence

Hey guys!

Happy Wednesday!

I'm currently in my 20's, and one of my biggest concerns in life right now is how will I be able to be financially independent, saving up a specific amount of money in a specific amount of time is quite hard specially when you're a shopaholic like me.

Good thing I discovered that there are lots of ways to become financially independent at Sun Life's "Ri5e Towards Money 4 Life" event held last June 1, 2016 at Makati, Shangri-La Hotel.

Sun Life of Canada (Philippines), Inc., the top-ranked and longest-standing life insurance company in the Philippines aims to serve five million clients by year 2020 under its new five-year growth plan dubbed "Rise PH"

"Rise PH" champions financial inclusion in the Philippines, where only a small percentage of the whole population utilizes financial products such as insurance and investments. "Despite the bright prospects that the country's economy has, prosperity still hasn't trickled down to the more disadvantaged sectors of society. We have to address this," Sun Life President and CEO Riza Mantaring said. "Sun Life would like to see more Filipinos looking forward to a brighter future and the whole country rising to greater heights. We would like to start by targeting five million clients in five years.

While it may seem like an ambitious goal, Mantaring belives that it's best to set the targets high. "At Sun Life, we always dare to dream big - more so if the stakes are high. This is the country's future we're talking about, after all," she explained. "Setting high targets will push us to do more, and will allow us to make a greater contribution to our country's future."

In order to reach the company's goals, several initiatives will be launched under "Rise PH". These initiatives will have Sun Life reaching out to a broader market, further boosting its financial literacy advocacy, and expanding its reach nationwide.

Financial Independence Month

The initial set of initiatives will be launched this June, which Sun Life has declared as "Financial Independence Month." This includes the cooperation with 8990 Holdings, Inc., one of the top mass housing developers in the country, for efforts to promote financial literacy.

Another initiative is Money for Life, a comprehensive, customizable financial planning program that will ensure that a client will have sufficient funds for every stage of his life.

To help inspire the public to create their own Money for Life plan with a financial advisor, Sun Life created a 360-degree virtual reality (VR) video, transporting them to different scenarios based on their chosen life stage. This will enable the viewer to live the dream for a minuite and be encouraged to start planning for their future through Money for Life and Sun Life's life insurance and investment products.

Viewable with a VR headset, the video can be experienced in a customized bus called "Bus to the Future," which will be makibg its way to different malls and campuses nationwide.
Among the stops are:
Bonifacio Global City High Street - June 11
Eastwood - June 19
SM City Cebu - June 25
and Solenad, Nuvali - July 2.

Meanwhile, to ensure that the youth will also be inspired early to save and invest, the "Bus to the Future" will also park at the ff schools:
Mapua Institute of Technology - June 2
Ateneo Graduate School of Business - June 12
De La Salle University - June 16
University of the Philippines Diliman - June 17
San Sebatian College - June 20
University of San Carlod Cebu - June 24
Lyceum of the Philippines University Manila - June 29
and UP Los Banos - June 30.
In all of these stops, Sun Life financial advisors will also be on hand to accomodate inquiries.

Of course I was able to experince viewing the VR Video at the Bus to the Future.

For those who will not be able to visit the "Bus to the Future" stops will still get a boost in theif financial journey with the Money for Life e-Planner. They simply have to go to and they can immediately start their financial planning, get product recommendations, and even buy mutual funds from Sun Life Asset Management Co., Inc

"Financial Independence Month" is now on its third year of highlighting the national importance of financiak preparednesa among Filipinos. "This June marks a new beginning as Sun Life embraces its goal of serving five million clients in five years," Mantaring said. "We are very much excited about the possibilities, and we look forward to helping our country rise to reach its full potential."

And that's it for today!

IndieFest at SM City Marikina: A Summer Music Festival to Remember

Hey guys!

Last Friday, May 20,2016, IndieFest Summer Music Festival was held at SM City Marikina, It was my first time to attend a summer music festival, and to say that I had fun is an understatement, it was an experience that I will never forget, here's a little summary of what I've seen at the mentioned music festival :)

First, here's a list of the bands that performed that night; Badkiss, Jensen x The Flips, Never The Strangers, Taken by Cars, Techy Romantics, She's Only Sixteen, Franco, and Motherbass.

Here are some snaps of the performances that I really enjoyed:

And I even asked Never the Strangers for a photo after their performance, and of course, they said yes! :D

Just a few minutes before Franco (Second to the last band) appeared on the stage, it started raining, but that didn't stopped the crowed from enjoying the show.

They ended the show with an awesome fireworks display.
